History

Founded in 2018, the International Movement Arts Academy is initiated by an international award-winning gymnast who founded the original model, the Foundation Santiago Marino in New Sparta, Venezuela approximately 15 years ago.

Founded in 2004, the Foundation Santiago Marino is a non-profit organization dedicated to the comprehensive development of low-income children and adolescents through gymnastics, acrobatics, dance, and the arts. The Foundation is registered in the Municipal Sports Institute of Marino, the Sports Institute of New Sparta, the Venezuelan Gymnastics Federation, the International Federation of Gymnastics, and the Suvalterno Register of New Sparta.

Foundation youth represented Venezuela internationally at events in Japan 2010 and 2012, Colombia 2014, and Ecuador 2016. The Foundation seeks to improve the quality of life of children and adolescents providing an opportunity for positive change and a better world.

Lenyn Cano

Executive Director

Mr. Lenyn Cano is the Founder and Executive Director of the International Movement Arts Academy in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Mr. Cano also works as a Gymnastics Coach with the YMCA of South Florida.

Mr. Cano has over 22 years of professional experience in movement arts administration and programming encompassing gymnastics, acrobatics, dance instruction, choreography, physical education, professional fitness training, and sports coaching. He is certified in gymnastics through the Venezuela Federation of Gymnastics, in fitness training through the International Fitness Association, and in aerobics instruction through the Spain Federation of Aerobics. Mr. Cano, who is also trained in psychological counseling and physical therapy, has focused his career on the development, health, and wellness of youth and adults. He holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education, sports, and recreation and is completing his master’s degree in nonprofit management and public administration.

Mr. Cano is the founder and executive director of the Foundation Santiago Marino in Venezuela. The Foundation Santiago Marino is a nonprofit organization that develops children through the movement arts. The Foundation has a 13-year history of youth development with at-risk children, strengthening their protective factors; building their adaptive functioning, leadership, and resilience; preventing their participation in maladaptive behaviors; and increasing their participation as productive and integral society members. Through the Foundation, Mr. Cano’s youth have participated in international competitions in Columbia, Ecuador, and Japan. As such, Mr. Cano is skilled in coordinating special events, showcases, performance, and competitions including in the acquisition of sponsorship. Mr. Cano, himself, is an international award-winning gymnast.
